AppTones FAQ

  • What is AppTones?
  • AppTones, the Sound of Messages, is a brand new way of exchanging free text messages over the iPhone. It combines pre-recorded lines of text (phrases), matching sounds, tones and icons into a cool iMedia Message packet. It works through the existing internet data plan of your iPhone.

  • How do I create an AppTone Message?
  • AppTone’s new Message Composition System changes the conventional way of typing messages. It allows you to select pre-recorded iMedia Messages and then “THUMB” the message plus icon and sound to a friend. With AppTones to say, “I love you” is only a touch away on your iPhone.

  • How do I match sounds/tones to phrases?
  • Once you have selected a pre-recorded line you simply touch the “match” button on the menu bar and it will automatically match the icon with the most appropriate sound/tone. Based on your personal preferences you can also manually match text, icon and tones.

  • How is AppTones different from SMS and conventional instant messengers?
  • Apptones, the Sound of Messages, innovates the way messages are sent and received. It comes with a free iMedia Message Pack that is funny, useful and original. Its built-in phrase ranking logic will automatically put your favorite messages on top of the iPhone scroll bar. The AppTones alert tone is sender defined, permitting original and surprising alert tones on the receiver’s end.

  • My friend has AppTones installed in his/her iPhone, why can't I exchange iMedia Messages with him/her?
  • If this happens to you, please make sure your friend's phone number is saved in your Address Book using the international format starting with the + sign followed by the country code and number. For instance +1 (000) 000-0000 for the US.

  • Why is my friend not in “Contacts” when he/she has installed AppTones?
  • AppTones will recognize and select all your Contacts in your iPhone that are part of the AppTones community. The phone number is used to indentify those contacts. You simply have to make sure your iPhone Contacts’ phone numbers are entered according to the standard international format starting with the + sign.
The list of contacts in AppTones is dynamic and new contacts will appear as they install AppTones in their phones.

  • I changed my phone number, what do I have to do to update AppTones?
  • If you change your phone number you have to delete AppTones, re-install it and register again with your new phone number.

  • Why do you ask for my phone number?
  • We ask for your phone number because this is how AppTones links messages between you and your contacts. We will not ever sell your personal information to any third party. If you need to learn more about our Privacy Policy, please take a look at our Privacy Notice.

  • Is it free to send iMedia Messages to contacts internationally?
  • Of course, it is free to send messages to contacts in other countries, just like it is free to send emails to people in other countries.

  • What can I do if I do not receive the security code via SMS after downloading AppTones?
  • Send us an email via "contact" containing your email address and mobile phone number (in the Message field). AppTones will use this information in order to get in touch with you and provide you with the unique security code that will enable the proper functioning of AppTones for you.
